  STRATEGIST DR. SARAH LAYTON HONORED  

The Institute of Management Consultants, USA, has awarded Dr. Sarah Layton, CMC, with its prestigious Fellow of IMC USA (FIMC) designation.   

“Sarah was not only responsible for establishing the Florida Chapter of IMC USA in Orlando; she served two terms on IMC USA’s national board of directors.  She chaired the IMC USA National Conference in 2004, and represented IMC USA at the bi-annual ICMCI Congress in Dublin, Ireland in 2007. She has demonstrated professionalism in her consulting business and has continued to give back to the profession through her numerous volunteer and philanthropic efforts,” said Dr. Drumm McNaughton, CMC®, Chairman and CEO of IMC USA.  She was honored in 2008 with the IMC USA Distinguished Service Award.  

Dr. Layton is the founding Managing Partner and CEO of Orlando-based Corporate Strategy Institute, Inc., and is a Certified Management Consultant who is known for delivering Blue Ocean Strategy® and strategic planning workshops around the world. Beyond her professional and volunteer efforts, Dr. Layton served as a trustee for Florida Southern College, currently serves on the board of Junior Achievement of Central Florida, and has been the national chair of Elections, Strategic Planning, and Research committees for the National Speakers Association, who previously honored Dr. Layton with the President’s Award for Service.  

“I am honored to be recognized by my peers for my accomplishments. No one gets to the top without standing on the shoulders of their supporters. Many people have contributed to these accomplishments and I am forever grateful to them for believing in me,” said Dr. Layton.  The award was announced during a formal ceremony at Confab, IMC’s 32nd annual conference held recently in Reno, Nevada, the largest conference in the US for consultants and by consultants.  

IMC USA was founded in 1968 with the primary purpose of assuring the public that its members possess ethical standards, professional competence and independence required to practice as management consultants. IMC USA is the sole certifying body for the United States, authorized to award the Certified Management Consultant (CMC®) designation.

Institute for Management Consultants – USA honors Sarah Layton

 Dr. Sarah Layton, CMC, CEO and Managing Partner of Corporate Strategy Institute (www.corporatestrategy.com), was honored with the national Distinguished Service Award at the Institute for Management Consultants, USA, convention recently in Reno, Nevada.

 The Institute for Management Consultants – USA, (www.imcusa.org) is the professional association for management consultants, with its mission to promote excellence and ethics in management consulting through certification, education and professional resources.

Drumm McNaughton, CMC, Ph.D, National Chair, and Judith Light, CMC, FIMC, Chair of the Awards Committee, described Sarah’s years of service to IMC USA, her clients and to the consulting profession. They said that Dr. Layton had worked tirelessly in so many arenas to advance the profession including serving on the national board of directors, chairing a national conference, attending the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes in Dublin, founding the Florida chapter of IMC USA, serving as Vice Chair of the College of Management Consultants, helping to start the Academy of Management Consultants and serving on many national committees and many other capacities.

 “And somehow, she still is a popular servant of her clients,” said Judith,”helping them formulate strategies to increase revenue dollars and profit % by identifying new markets that are not dependent on fierce competition, expensive marketing or R&D budgets.”

 “We had quite a time trying keep this secret”, said Judith. “We had to do a bit of sneaking around to pull it off.”

 Besides serving her profession through IMC USA, Dr. Layton serves as trustee at Florida Southern College, in Lakeland, Fl, serves on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Central Florida, serves on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Central Florida Foundation, and serves as independent corporate director for companies.

Dr. Sarah Layton presents Blue Ocean Strategy in six countries

Qualified Blue Ocean Strategist  Dr. Sarah Layton was invited to present two day workshops on Blue Ocean Strategy to executives in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and India.  Comments from attendees include:

Two day sessions included case studies from known Blue Ocean Strategy companies such as Cirque du Soleil, Nintendo, Curves and SouthWest Airlines. Delegates were then able to select a company and industry in which to practice utilizing the Blue Ocean Strategy tools to create a Blue Ocean Strategy. This enabled them to gain confidence to return to their companies to begin their own Blue Ocean Strategy process.

News Release - Nov 5, 2007                      

Dr. Sarah Layton represents US at the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes

             Dr. Sarah Layton, CEO and Managing Partner of Corporate Strategy Institute, Inc recently traveled to Dublin, Ireland, along with two other US delegates, to represent the Institute for Management Consultants - USA, at the congress held by the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes.  IMC-USA is the professional association for management consultants in the US, awarding the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) to those who successfully complete the qualification requirements and pledge to adhere to the Code of Ethics for the profession. Dr. Layton served on the national board of directors until June of this year.

            An Orlando resident, Dr. Layton celebrated 20 years in business last year and specializes in corporate strategy presentations and processes utilizing the Blue Ocean Strategy strategic planning tools to create uncontested market space for her clients helping to make their competition irrelevant. Her processes look at removing the head to head competition, the fight for competitive advantage and the battle for differentiation typical of many corporate strategies.

            She was recently honored by IMC-USA at the World Consulting Conference held in Orlando this summer with an award for outstanding service.

Dr. Sarah Layton Qualified in Blue Ocean Strategy

             Dr. Sarah Layton , managing partner of the strategic management consulting firm Corporate Strategy Institute (www.corporatestrategy.com), has been qualified by the Blue Ocean Strategy Initiative Centre, London, in Blue Ocean Strategy concepts, tools and frameworks.  Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make the Competition Irrelevant, written by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne was named the best business book of 2005 and has won many awards for its authors.  Dr. Layton was invited to participate in the qualification process by the Blue Ocean Strategy Initiative Centre - London, after reviewing their book in Consulting to Management Magazine.  Dr. Layton was then invited to meet with Kim and Mauborgne in Fontainebleau, France, which she did late 2006.

             Many CEOs go through a planning process but find that the resulting document does not give them or their team a clear vision of their future direction.  Dr. Layton utilizes the Blue Ocean Strategy tools, concepts and frameworks to round out her strategy processes, based not on just preparing a document but on drawing a picture called a "strategy canvas." This approach consistently produces strategies that are easy to understand and communicate, that engage more people within an organization, and that unlock the creativity of participants.

             Blue Ocean Strategy enables the client company to break away from the competition and focus on value innovation for the customer. Examples of companies that have successfully developed Blue Ocean Strategies are:  Callaway Golf, Cirque du Soleil, [yellow tail] wine and NetJet among many others.
