The Smart Sensors are Coming… The Smart Sensors are coming…

Just returned from a meeting updating the Central Florida community on the progress of a project that will create a state-of-the-art manufacturing research and incubation facility in Florida. The idea is to focus on the advanced manufacturing of emerging technologies beginning with next-generation smart sensors. Central Florida, through a partnership with UCF, Osceola County, and industry, is creating the world’s first industry-led consortium in advanced manufacturing of smart sensors in Florida.

The benefit could be as high as 83,000+ jobs by 2020 and an economic impact of $5.2B in total earnings and almost a half billion dollars in state and local taxes. An exciting new direction for Central Florida, the positive impact to reach far beyond the Central Florida borders. Dr. MJ Soileau, V.P. for Research and Professor of Optics, ECE and Physics at UCF delivered the technical update followed by Don Fisher, Osceola County Manager who delivered the economic impact. Dr. John Hitt, President of UCF delivered a summary of the game changing nature of the project for Central Florida.
